Career Highlights

In which online programs do you teach?

Curriculum and Instruction in STEM Education Concentration of the MSEd

What do you want students to take away from your classes?

I want students to become familiar with STEM teaching and develop the mindset of being a lifelong STEM learner AND educator. My hope is that students will take away a greater appreciation for the goals of STEM education and the confidence of implementing those goals in their own classroom.

How long have you been teaching online courses?

I have been teaching online courses since fall 2018.

Why did you start teaching?

I started teaching out of deep admiration for the profession and because I wanted to replicate the positive relationships I had with my teachers with future students.

What is the value of a master's degree in education?

Teaching is a recursive practice in an ever-changing field. Like their students, teachers must always strive to learn and improve their craft. Therefore, I believe that any level of advanced learning or degrees in education is invaluable for a teacher to reach their full potential.

What advice would you give to those considering an online MSEd program?

I would advise students to answer and reflect on two essential questions: What are three personal or professional goals associated with earning an MSEd degree? How will an online MSEd program help you achieve each of those goals?

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know.

My husband and I recently moved from North Carolina. Fun fact: We have watched all 30 MLB teams play in their home fields!
