What do you want students to take away from your classes?
I use my 30 years of experience to
demonstrate how online marketing concepts learned in class relate to the real
world. I teach them how to find other internet marketing-related concepts that
have changed, are new, or we don’t have time to discuss in our course together.
The industry changes often so I’m tough on grading; doing so will give [each
student] a competitive edge. I incorporate hands-on learning by having each
student develop web content on an actual website and see [how] data analytics
generated from their work measure effectiveness. It’s important to me that my
students understand the real challenges they will face and learn skills that
will help them succeed. And let’s have a little fun on the way!
Why did you start teaching?
The faculty at SOU impressed me
with their genuine interest in students, their education, and communities. I
wanted to be part of a team that worked to make a positive difference with
people. I wanted to contribute to society by helping to educate the next couple
of generations so they are prepared for the challenges they will face.
What is the value of an MBA degree?
The MBA degree tells organizations
about the dedication and commitment that the individual who holds the degree
has. The degree indicates a better understanding of business concepts and
techniques that are needed to remain competitive and relevant.
What advice would you give to those considering an MBA at SOU?
Learn to discipline yourself with
plenty of study time. Courses are accelerated and expectations are high. Take
care of yourself with exercise and eating well to support all that study.
What is one book you think everyone should read?
“The One Minute Manager” by Ken
Blanchard and Spencer Johnson
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know.
The first time I tried out for the JV basketball team I tripped on the ball, landed in the bleachers, and broke my arm. The second time I tried I made the team.
