How long have you been teaching online courses?
17 years.
What do you want students to take away from your classes? What do you want them to learn?
I want them to learn how to be resourceful, to answer their questions by thinking critically and digging deep. I want them to appreciate the complex nature of marketing and to always be learning.
What is the value of an MBA?
The MBA takes the traditional business education further by linking functional concepts and encouraging strategic thinking. It demands a higher level of thinking and performance. The MBA opens doors not possible with a bachelor's degree. I never thought I would be a teacher; and if it wasn't for my MBA, I would have never had the opportunity.
Why did you start teaching?
I taught a night class at a community college and realized I loved teaching. I left the real estate and investment world and obtained a full-time teaching job the next year. I like helping people reach their goals, to not take things at face value, and to feed their curiosity. I like seeing people do more than they thought possible.
What advice would you give to those considering the online MBA program?
Set aside time from your weekly schedule to work on your classes in an uninterrupted environment. Make sure you have support from your family and friends so you can devote the time needed to reaching your goal.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
Two favorites: The Undoing Project by Michael Lewis and Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know.
I love bass fishing and hunting. I have seven grandsons.
