General MBA
Designed for students who desire a broad range of knowledge across many business sectors, the General MBA includes comprehensive coursework in accounting, marketing, finance and economics. Core competencies such as leadership, ethics and effective communication are emphasized to prepare students for business management roles in a broad variety of dynamic fields.
Core requirements for the 45-credit hour General MBA include challenging coursework that covers a range of topics including Marketing Management and Strategies, Economic Analysis and Information Systems. Students can choose from several elective courses that include Advanced Management Information Systems, Using GIS in Business, and Business Valuation and Financial Statements.
Concentration in Accounting MBA
SOU’s Accounting MBA offers the same 33 hours of core courses, with electives that include Accounting Information Systems, Financial Statement Analysis, and Business Valuation and Financial Statements. Graduates with an Accounting MBA are well on their way to taking on roles such as corporate accountant, internal auditor or chief financial officer.
Concentration in Marketing MBA
MBAs with a marketing focus are in high demand, and graduates from SOU’s Marketing MBA will be prepared for management roles across many business sectors. Students will learn from expert faculty on industry trends, brand building and inventory distribution. Core courses similar to those for the General MBA lay the groundwork for more in-depth marketing electives that include Using GIS in Business, Internet Marketing and eCommerce, and Marketing Channels Management and Pricing Strategy.
Concentration in Business Analytics MBA
One of the fastest growing sectors in corporate business and government is analytics, and SOU’s Business Analytics MBA will prepare students for a data-driven future. The same solid core foundation readies students to dive into electives that include Advanced MIS/Business Analytics, Building Decision-Making and Business Analysis Models Using Excel, and Using GIS in Business. The emerging technology in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has the ability not only to transform business decision-making, but also to impact the areas of government and non-profits, preparing graduates for a variety of career sectors.
All concentrations in SOU’s online MBA comprise 13-courses or 45 credit hours, which include 33 hours of core courses and 12 hours of electives. Required for all MBA concentrations are a Graduate Research Project and Capstone course. In the Graduate Research Project, students will apply research methods and procedures to a real-world situation. The Capstone provides an experience that integrates the MBA coursework using intensive business cases and analysis.
