Career Highlights:

I have been teaching at Southern Oregon University since 2018. Over the past 20 years I’ve been a teacher in a variety of settings, including K-8 schools, childcare settings, yoga studios, dance studios, etc.

My research experience includes conducting qualitative research on a health promotion program using peer-assisted physical activity for depression and anxiety in college students. I presented this research, “The Effects of a Peer-Assisted Physical Activity Program on Depression and Anxiety in College Students” at the Association for Applied Sport Psychology Conference in Portland, Oregon in 2019.

I got my master’s degree while raising my children, so I have first-hand knowledge of how challenging it can be to continue education while balancing a busy life. Because of this experience, I have the understanding and ability to help my adult students successfully navigate their journey through higher education.

  • What do you want students to take away from your classes? What do you want them to learn?

Overall, my aim is to create an environment of compassion, curiosity, and inclusivity. Essential to my worldview is the acknowledgement of our shared humanity and the development of empathy. Equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice remain central to my teaching philosophy.

  • How long have you been teaching online courses?

I have been teaching online for three years.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I have always loved learning and being in the classroom, and teaching has been a natural extension of that. As a teacher, I love creating opportunities for my students to broaden their understanding of themselves, the world around them, and their place in it.

  • What is the value of a higher degree in the field in which you teach?

In addition to career advancement, a master’s degree in education provides the opportunity for self-knowledge and the expansion of one's worldview.

  • What advice would you give to those considering your online program?

Take advantage of opportunities to connect and collaborate with peers and instructors.

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know.

I love to garden! My backyard garden produces tons of veggies and fruit, and is even complete with three bunnies, five chickens, and thousands of bees.
